Digital Brilliance Hour Fall 2024 Students Release Their First Game
dec 11 was an exciting day for Digital Brilliance Hour (DBH), Durham Technical College, and the Gamer’s Club community as we proudly released Zebler: Evade, Rebuild, Escape, an action-packed game built in just three weeks! This milestone is the result of collaboration, creativity, and an unstoppable commitment to innovation by our Fall 2024 students.
About the Game: Zebler’s Mission
A streak of light blazes across Earth’s sky—an uninvited guest has arrived. Meet Zebler, a cosmic explorer whose ship crash-lands on Earth, drawing the attention of soldiers and curious humans, many of whom are motivated by fear and greed. Zebler’s path is fraught with challenges: evade capture, rebuild, and escape back to the stars.
In this gripping beat ‘em up adventure, players will navigate intense levels, face dangerous enemies, and experience Zebler’s struggle for survival firsthand. The game also features a unique twist in its third stage, which transitions into an exciting shmup (shoot ‘em up) level, giving players a fresh challenge and dynamic gameplay.
Play It Now: Zebler: Evade, Rebuild, Escape is available exclusively on GameJolt for Windows users. The game was created using the OpenBOR game engine, coded in C programming language, giving it that nostalgic arcade feel with modern mechanics.
A Dual Celebration: Music Meets Gaming
The excitement didn’t stop at the game release. Our talented music students also unveiled the album “Breaking Free”, a stunning 6-song EP that complements Zebler perfectly. Many tracks from the album can be heard throughout the game, creating a seamless audio-visual experience that immerses players in Zebler’s world.
The Release Party
To mark the occasion, DBH hosted a massive release party celebrating both the game and the album. It was a moment of pride for our students, families, and mentors—a testament to what happens when creativity and collaboration meet opportunity.
What’s Next?
The journey doesn’t end here. There are exciting plans to expand Zebler: Evade, Rebuild, Escape with new levels, mechanics, and surprises coming soon. Stay tuned for updates as the game evolves and grows!
